She studied biology and environmental science and worked as researcher in Turkish, Norwegean American and Finnish Universities.
Her novels were translated into ten languages, became a "member of honor" of the University of Iowa (IWP) in 1996 (USA), and was honored with a certificate of appreciation by the METU Senate in 2004. The author received the "Life Long Honorary Award" given by Ankara University and Ankara Story Days Association in 2016.
Buket Uzuner was elected one of the 'The most Influencial Women”of Turkey on the 75th Anniversary of the Republic of Turkey with the votes of the jury consisting of Turkish universities, press, profession and governorships of 81 provinces. (1998)
In 2019, ITU Business Eng. Club Students awarded her the Social Media Author of the Year award.
The author was honored with the 2020 "Freedom of Thought and Expression Award" of the Turkish Publishers Association (TYB) for her book "The Most Naked Day of the Moon" which was censored 34 years after its publication.
The novels "Water", "Earth", "Air" and "Fire"(The Nature Quartet) which are claimed from as climate-fiction genre, where they deals with "climate change"- environmental problems and use fantastic elements from Turkish Mythology, were completed in 2023.
The author prepared a preface to the book "Zeynep Hanım", one of the first Ottoman feminist women. In 2017, the first children's book "Oh If I Were a Cat!" published.
Buket Uzuner, who makes long train journeys in North Sahara Africa, North America and Europe, lives in Istanbul.
